Every dog deserves a special homemade treat now and again. Your pooch will certainly love these treats on his birthday, or any day. I certainly wouldn’t recommend feeding your beloved four-legged friend a cupcake everyday, but these banana pupcakes can be shared or frozen for up to two months so there is no need for a feeding frenzy.

Although your pup may want to put down 5 or 6 of these dog cupcakes, it’s best to save these for special days or after a long hike in the woods.

Ingredients:

3 Cups All-Purpose Flour

1 teaspoon Baking Powder

1 Egg

1 teaspoon Vanilla

3 Tablespoons Honey

2 Cups Water

2 Ripe Bananas (mashed)

Heat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Combine dry ingredients in a medium bowl. Add egg, vanilla, honey and water and mix until there are no lumps left in the batter. Fold in the mashed banana.

Lightly spray cupcake pan with cooking spray and line with paper cupcake liners. Fill each liner about half-way. These pupcakes won’t rise so they will be very dense. Bigger isn’t always better. Depending on the size of your dog, you may want to make these pupcakes larger or smaller.

Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove pupcakes from oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. When dog cupcakes are cool, top with cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients:

1-8 ounce container of light or low-fat cream cheese

2 Tablespoons Plain Yogurt

2 Tablespoons Honey

2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour

Combine cream cheese, yogurt, and honey in a small bowl and beat on low-speed until smooth. Add flour one tablespoon at a time and mix well. Top pupcakes with frosting.

Does anybody know if I can take out the honey in this recipe? We don’t have any at home, and I need to make these tomorrow for one of my dogs, Sparky’s doggy party.
    Thanks.

You can take the honey out of the recipe if you’d like. Substitutions for honey include sugar, molasses, or maple syrup, but I would not recommend putting any of those in the treats. Your best bet would be to add a little water to the recipe for moisture.
